Caleb Plant vs. Caleb Truax Gives PBC On FOX Its Best Viewership Since 2019

PBC on FOX kicked off 2021 with its most-watched telecast in more than a year.

According to numbers released by Nielsen Media Research, the January 30 PBC on FOX card headlined by Caleb Plant vs. Caleb Truax averaged 1.608 million viewers, 495,000 viewers in the 18-49 demographic. This card drew a better average viewership than all of PBC on FOX’s 2020 cards. The telecast’s viewership was the best since the December 21, 2019 telecast that averaged 1.65 million viewers.

The Plant vs. Truax main event drew 1.887 million viewers with a peak viewership of 2.019 million viewers. Plant outboxed Truax towards a unanimous decision victory to retain the IBF super middleweight title with all three judges scoring the bout 120-108 in favor of Plant.

In the ratings, the January 2021 telecast drew a 0.95 household rating (with a 0.38 rating in 18-49 demographic). Both the ratings and the viewership numbers for Plant’s latest outing far outdrew all of PBC’s televised cards since it returned from a COVID-19-related hiatus last summer.

The fight against Truax also saw an improvement from the last telecast headlined by Plant back in February 2020. That February 15, 2020 card drew 1.528 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demo. It also was the best viewership and ratings number for a January PBC card since Keith Thurman’s 2019 bout against Josesito Lopez, which drew 1.98 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic.

In other boxing ratings news, the prelim card for Plant vs. Truax drew 871,000 viewers (238,000 in the 18-49 demo) and a 0.54 household rating. That three-fight portion telecast, highlighted by Rances Barthelemy’s win over All Rivera, also aired on FOX.

The rest of the FOX main card saw Michael Coffie send Darmani Rock multiple times to the canvas en route to a third-round KO victory. The main card opened with Joey Spencer knocking out Isiah Seldon in the first round to remain undefeated.

FOX recently announced that former world champion Anthony Dirrell will face Kyrone Davis on a PBC on FOX card on February 27.
