Ring City USA Returns On April 22, Will Go To West Point For Heavyweight Main Event

Ring City USA will return later this month with a trip to West Point for its next event.

The series announced its next card will take place on April 22 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York. The main event for the card, airing on NBC Sports Network, will feature unbeaten heavyweights Jermaine Franklin and Stephan Shaw in action against each other.

Per a press release from Ring City USA, it will pay homage to the host venue and its rich history by honoring current and former service members. The academy’s history is evidenced by 10 National Boxing Championships and a curriculum that mandates all cadets participate in the school’s renowned boxing program. Ring City will highlight the West Point Boxing Team by presenting intramural scrimmages on the undercard.

Franklin (20-0, 13 KO) has not fought since a decision victory against Pavel Sour back in October 2019. That fight capped off a year that saw Franklin beat Jerry Forrest and Rydell Booker, both by 10-round decisions.

Shaw (14-0, 10 KO) will return to Ring City USA after scoring a shutout win on the scorecards against Lyubomyr Pinchuk back in December. All of Shaw’s 10 KO victories took four rounds or less to achieve.

This will mark Ring City’s first event in the United States since late 2020 when its first couple of shows took place at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood. Back in March, Ring City held three shows across various locations in Puerto Rico.

Originally, Ring City USA was set to return on April 8 with Charles Conwell vs. Ivan Golub in the main event. It got canceled after Boxing Scene reported that Conwell suffered a hand injury.

Armed Forces Network Europe and Pacific will make the broadcast available to U.S. Forces serving overseas on AFN TV.
